Red, red wine…..might help you burn fat!

And its not even April yet….

Seriously though, a recent study by a researcher at the Oregon State University found that drinking moderate levels of red coloured grapes be it in the form of the fruit or drinking them in the form of juice or wine may help with burning fat.

The study involved exposing human liver & fat cells grown in laboratory conditions to 4 natural chemicals found in Muscadine grapes, a variety grown in the USA. One particular chemical known as “Ellagic acid” was shown to be particularly potent whereby it slowed the growth of existing fat cells and even the formation of new cells. Fatty acids in the liver were also shown to slow in growth.

The researcher was careful to note that while red grapes were not the next weight loss miracle, “We didn’t find, and we didn’t expect to, that these compounds would improve body weight,”
